We are a Social Enterprise

Being a Social Enterprise

Since 2014, Cumbria Health has been committed to supporting community and environmental initiatives as a recognised Social Enterprise. Through our Social Enterprise Committee, we have proudly awarded funding to over 70 community causes, helping to make a meaningful difference to individuals and organisations locally and beyond.

We are proud to be part of a global movement of organisations working to create a fairer, more sustainable future. As members of Social Enterprise UK, everything we do is driven by a clear mission to benefit both people and the planet.

Unlike traditional organisations, our purpose goes beyond profit. We focus on creating positive, lasting change in the communities we serve.

What This Means for Us

Being a Social Enterprise is at the heart of how we operate.

It means we reinvest the majority of any surplus we generate back into initiatives that matter, including:

  • Improving health and wellbeing
  • Supporting local communities across Cumbria
  • Promoting environmental sustainability

Every decision we make is guided by our commitment to delivering real social value and improving lives.

Our Social Enterprise Committee

In 2016, we strengthened this commitment by launching the Cumbria Health Social Enterprise Committee, an employee-led group dedicated to making a direct difference in our communities.

The committee plays a key role in identifying and supporting local initiatives, ensuring funding is directed to causes that align with our values and make the greatest impact.

Through this initiative, we have:

  • Funded over 70 community projects and causes
  • Supported a wide range of local organisations, charities, and initiatives
  • Delivered meaningful impact across Cumbria and beyond

This approach ensures our colleagues play an active role in shaping how we give back, keeping us closely connected to the communities we serve and strengthening our shared commitment to social responsibility.
