Cumbria Health

Providing primary health care services in and out of hours to the population of Cumbria.

Formerly known as CHoC

Welcome to Cumbria Health, your trusted partner in comprehensive healthcare services

We are proud to be a trusted healthcare provider, formerly known as CHoC, delivering primary health care services within and out of hours to the population of Cumbria and beyond.

Celebrating 30 Years

Thirty years ago, a small group of Cumbrian GPs came together with a simple but important goal: to make sure no patient in the county was left without care when their local surgery was closed.

What began as a GP cooperative has grown into Cumbria Health, an organisation now made up of 670 dedicated people, six GP practices, 17 clinical sites, and services supporting more than 528,000 people across 2,613 square miles of one of England’s most rural counties.

Over the last three decades, healthcare has changed dramatically, but our purpose has remained the same: providing high-quality, compassionate care for the communities we serve. From out-of-hours services to urgent care, primary care, and community support, our story has always been about people, the patients who trust us and the teams who make exceptional care possible every day.

Our patients are at the heart of all we do
  • From the initial telephone call handlers to the follow up phone calls with the Pharmacist and Drs, including 3 x F2F appointments and physical examinations undertaken at Penrith Urgent Care Centre, the service the Cumbria Health team provided to us was excellent.
  • The nurse was very considerate towards us both, knowing we were on holiday and aware travel logistics were difficult, discussed our possible options reassuring us whilst doing so.
  • Each one of them was like speaking to a family member or friend as they took me through the process, on some days, of counting his breath, a thing I had never done before. This continued for 14 days and I felt totally safe with him.
  • I was shown nothing but understanding, thoroughness and support.
  • Your clinician calmed me down and really made me feel at ease. I couldn’t have asked for a better service.
  • The clinician proved to us his professionalism, exceptional medical skills and ability to empathise with his patents. It made me feel better just seeing him.
  • Cumbria Health really did make a trip for medical treatment while on holiday at Center Parcs so easy and for that I am forever grateful.
  • I wish to express my sincere thanks and appreciation for the wonderful service I received on both occasions. From the initial contacts with control, to the triage consultations and the home visits…I couldn’t have asked for a better service.
  • I cannot thank you all enough for the guidance you gave to me and the care and support you provided to my mother on such busy weekends.
