Primary Care Services

Working with our partners to deliver enhanced and extended services to benefit our local populations

CHEA
The Cumbria Health Extended Access service (CHEA) offers convenient evening and weekend appointments that you can book in advance. You can see GPs, Nurse Practitioners, Nurses, Healthcare Assistants, or Pharmacists. Our goal is to provide complete care during your appointment, helping you get the support you need without extra visits. possible. Bookings are via 15 minute appointments with regular appropriate breaks. All clinicians must stay on shift until the end of the shift time, regardless of whether they have patients booked in or not. It is necessary for all clinicians working CHEA shifts to have “out of hours cover” for the shift by their indemnity organisation. This is necessary as there may well be a requirement for the clinician to deal with Cumbria Health (out of hours) patients. This could occur, for instance, if the CHEA clinic is not fully booked.
Digital Assessment Service (DAS)
Digital Assessment Service (DAS) is a service that can be used across all Cumbria Health family practices by submitting an online consultation form found on your GP surgery website. Your request will then be assessed within the surgery and a remote telephone triage appointment made with a clinician if necessary. All routine requests are responded to within 3 working days.
Odyssey
Odyssey is a system that helps non-clinical staff assess how urgent your medical need is. It ensures you’re directed to the right care at the right time. By using Odyssey, staff can rely on the system to evaluate your symptoms accurately, reducing the chance of mistakes and ensuring you get the support you need as quickly as possible.
Tourist Health Line
Cumbria, the UK's third-largest county, is known for its stunning landscapes, including the Lake District National Park, three Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and two UNESCO World Heritage sites. With around 47 million visitors each year, it's no wonder so many people come to enjoy this beautiful region. To support visitors in the Grange and Lakes area, the Tourist Health Line (THL) provides a helpful telephone service. Operating Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5:30 pm, this service gives non-residents access to primary care while they're here.
PLT Provision
All GP surgeries have a number of Protected Learning Time (PLT) days each year. Protected Learning Time is set aside specifically for practice staff to undertake professional learning and personal development. As GP surgeries close early for PLT Cumbria Health provide cover during the time the surgeries are closed by extending our Out of Hours provision and responding to primary care health needs of people across Cumbria.

Work Place Health Checks

Cumbria Health are partnering with Cumberland Council and Westmorland and Furness Council to deliver free workplace health checks across Cumbria. We will be working with employers across the county to deliver NHS health checks and digital heart health checks to promote uptake of health checks in the region, promoting early indication of indicators for heart disease, stroke and kidney disease.
