About Cumbria Health

Who We Are

We are proud to be a trusted healthcare provider, formerly known as CHoC, delivering primary health care services within and out of hours to the population of Cumbria and beyond. We originated as an out of hours primary health care provider in 1996, going on to cover a population of approximately 500,000 people, 365 days a year across Cumbria.

From these strong roots we have grown to be much more than an out of hours provider, we now deliver various other health services for the benefit of the patients we serve.

We have a network of 6 GP Practices across Cumbria, ensuring our rural communities can access reliable and high quality primary care services close to home.  We pride ourselves on being at the forefront of innovation in healthcare, using technology-enabled solutions to better care for our patients, their families and communities.

Our patients are at the heart of all we do, we want to provide every patient with responsive, high quality and forward thinking health care.  We have strong relationships with other health providers and strive for excellence in all we do, working together as one team, connecting and engaging with our local communities to meet their needs.

Social Enterprise

A Social Enterprise is a business driven by a mission to benefit people and the planet. Unlike traditional businesses, our purpose isn’t profit—it’s creating positive change. As a recognised Social Enterprise since 2014 and proud members of Social Enterprise UK, we’re part of a global movement of organisations committed to building a fairer, more sustainable future.

What This Means for Us

Being a social enterprise is at the heart of everything we do. It’s a commitment to reinvesting the majority of any surplus we generate into causes that matter—whether that’s improving health, supporting our communities, or caring for the environment.

Our Social Enterprise Committee

In 2016, we took this commitment even further by creating the Cumbria Health Social Enterprise Committee, an employee-led group dedicated to identifying and supporting initiatives that benefit our communities. Through this committee, we’ve funded more than 70 incredible causes, making a meaningful difference in Cumbria and beyond.

Our Vision

As we continue to develop new and effective ways of providing care we must strive for excellence in all that we do, ensuring the population of Cumbria consistently receive the right response, from the right clinician, at the right time, wherever they live.

What people have said about us
  • From the initial telephone call handlers to the follow up phone calls with the Pharmacist and Drs, including 3 x F2F appointments and physical examinations undertaken at Penrith Urgent Care Centre, the service the Cumbria Health team provided to us was excellent.
  • The nurse was very considerate towards us both, knowing we were on holiday and aware travel logistics were difficult, discussed our possible options reassuring us whilst doing so.
  • Each one of them was like speaking to a family member or friend as they took me through the process, on some days, of counting his breath, a thing I had never done before. This continued for 14 days and I felt totally safe with him.
  • I was shown nothing but understanding, thoroughness and support.
  • Your clinician calmed me down and really made me feel at ease. I couldn’t have asked for a better service.
  • The clinician proved to us his professionalism, exceptional medical skills and ability to empathise with his patents. It made me feel better just seeing him.
  • Cumbria Health really did make a trip for medical treatment while on holiday at Center Parcs so easy and for that I am forever grateful.
  • I wish to express my sincere thanks and appreciation for the wonderful service I received on both occasions. From the initial contacts with control, to the triage consultations and the home visits…I couldn’t have asked for a better service.
  • I cannot thank you all enough for the guidance you gave to me and the care and support you provided to my mother on such busy weekends.
